Maybe carboydrates aren't the enemy?...

This is the second week I am actually back on carbs...well more than one serving a day. I have not eaten a bake potato in months! I've been adding that to my lunch this week with turkey chili, and I have energy all day! No more mid afternoon crawling on the ground hunger pangs. I can actually make it through my work out, with a smile, and with enthusiasm. I did not feel like passing out, and I even put an extra jump, step, shuffle or something extra in my Zumba moves. This week I had enough energy to take 2 work out classes back to back.
For the past 2 months I have been on a low carb diet. I realize now, that its really not for me. I was tired all day, really cranky, and always felt hungry. Worst of all, my work-outs sucked! Protein bars/drinks did not seem to energize me, and wore off after 30 minutes or so. There is alot of research out there suggesting that people on low-carb diets have a harder time sticking with their diet. After what I went through, I can see why. I really respect people who can totally give up carbohydrates, but I'll settle with moderation.

I would tell anyone who's considering doing a low carb diet that two key factors in your decision making process should be your weight loss and dieting goals. If you are trying to lose a few pounds temporarily for an event then low carb/no carb diets will do the trick, but if it is for general weight loss then you would be better served to leave it alone.

Low carb seems to only be a temporary solution simply because your body will eventually adjust to your carb intake and what was once low carb is no longer low carb. The best way to get the full advantage of low carb dieting, without the set backs, would be to implore a zig-zag dieting strategy to your low carb diet. Simply put eat low-carb for 3 to 4 days, then have a full day of "standard" carb intake just before your body is about to recalibrate. This will allow you to burn fat due to a lack of carbs and not have a day where you can splurge a little on carbs.

Beware of Chinese! If you can avoid the buffet, do it. I know I end up w/ too much samples of really bad stuff. Or, fill most of your plate up w/ veggies (not fried). Start with some soup and lots of water. I always over eat at the buffet because the food doesnt really hit you till 30 min later, and then you are hungry in an hour! I try and get sushi when I go, atleast its tasty and pretty healthy.

Man, Caribou coffee ice cream sounds great! Who knoew Caribou made ice cream? Must be a Chorlotte thing. Let us know how you survive the buffet, BE STRONG!
